Romance Is in the Air!

Romance...According to Merriam Webster, the word means:

1

a (1) : a medieval tale based on legend, chivalric love and adventure, or the supernatural (2) : a prose narrative treating imaginary characters involved in events remote in time or place and usually heroic, adventurous, or mysterious (3) : a love story especially in the form of a novel

b : a class of such literature

2

: something (as an extravagant story or account) that lacks basis in fact

3

: an emotional attraction or aura belonging to an especially heroic era, adventure, or activity

What does it mean to me? I describe romance as the act of showing affection to another person. Okay so that's rather simplistic, but that's my definition.

And speaking of romance, I thought I'd share my vote for the most romantic scene from a movie. Now I'm a little biased. Movies right now don't do much for me. I don't know why...but that's me and I am different. But the one I'm thinking of is pretty recent, if within the last 15 years is recent. Giggle. Ever see The Wedding Singer, yeah, that one with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore? People tend to make fun of this movie, but there were moments of schmaltz and moments of sweetness, too. My favorite part is when Julia (Drew) is trying to figure out what kind of kiss is appropriate for church. Robbie (Adam) is there, so Julia's sister has Julia practice on him. It's completely PG, but it's so steamy and sensual that I love it.

So now here's the interactive part. Want to win a book from my backlist? Yeah? Then tell me what your favorite romance scene is from the movies. Leave you answer, your name and email - because I can't contact you if I don't have that - and you're entered. Easy!

And there's a huge prize up for grabs so make sure you're adding your email and name to the comments! Each one is a little closer to winning!

Now here's the list to keep hopping!

That scene in First Knight, with Richard Gere and Julia Ormand as, Lancelot and Gwenivere when he is going to leave for good. The forbidden kiss that is so passionate they get caught by Author, and there's no pretending.

favorite? Hmm.... I think it was in the movie J Edgar if you can believe it... Hoover and his best friend are fighting - literally fist fighting. Hoover is denying himself, his feelings for this man.. who knocks him to the ground - then leans up over him - kisses him passionately - says I love you and leaves. Hoover sits up-rubbing his lips like he is savoring the feel.. and whispers "I love you too". Pathos and fear and total understanding of himself at that moment.. not romantic but certainly memorable.

In THE PILLOW BOOK, I always love the scene where Jerome celebrates Nagiko's birthday by bathing her and then writing on her. There's also the one in NORA where James Joyce is lying in bed in Rome, looking very post-coitally satisfied as he speaks Italian to his wife while the sun splashes across his body. Not coincidentally, Ewan McGregor plays both men...sigh!

That's a hard one. I love scene in Gone with the Wind when Rhett whisks Scarlett up the stairs to make love to her. I love the scene in Pretty Woman when Vivian kisses Edward for the first time or the scene in Runaway Bride where Maggie comes to see Ike at the end and she tells him who she really is and that she love him. I love the scene on A Different World(TV) where DeWayne interrupts Whitley's wedding to say that she can't marry this other guy because he still loves her. Man there are so many and the list goes on and on. I for one am a romance junky. lol

Why I like Romance Novels….The reason I like Romance Novels so much is because it is one place where I can be anywhere like England, Scotland, Rome, Ireland, or anywhere in the US. I can also be in any time like 1200’s Scotland, 1500’s England, 1900’s Chicago. I can be anyone like a princess, a servant, a werewolf, a duchess, a vampire, or a lost soul. But no matter what I get the privilege and the experience to overcome many different obstacles and find love. I am a mother of three teenagers as well and there are many days when I need an escape and my heart needs a rest from the trials of being a parent and trying to do what is best for everyone but yourself. I have overcome cancer, loss, and financial problems and Romance Books let my heart soar and feel free. Let me tell you in this world, and during this time where life can have so many struggles it is great that you can be, have, and do so many things to find love and romance and still be yourself!

My goodness, there are so many favorites that I have from movies. I will give you one from my Say Anything...when John Cusack is walking with Ione Skye in front of a convenience store, after a night at a party, and he stops her to sweep the glass out of the way. It is something silly, but to me is the sweetest gesture! :)
